Chop Shop: Your Atlanta go-to for paninis & brisket

Chop Shop is a great butcher-driven community market near East Atlanta Village. Except it’s more than just a market: Sure, you can pick up some cross-cut beef shank to make a delicious osso bucco at home or some premium smoked sausages for your next grill out, but you can also get prepared foods that are made from the same great quality ingredients. Think brisket paninis, pulled pork sandwiches, or authentic Cubanos.

In addition to prepared foods, Chop Shop also boasts a wide variety of locally made grocery items that complement any beef, chicken, or pork cut that catches your eye. We’re talking seasonings, pickles and relishes, side items, and fresh local produce.

And if you’re not sure what to pair with the aforementioned beef shank with – or even the best way to cook it – you have a couple of options: Ask one of the sales associates, who are very knowledgeable about their products, or pick up one of the recipe cards by the front door. Both are genuinely helpful.

What I appreciate most about Chop Shop is that all of their products are sustainable. This store is a partnership between a butcher and a farmer, and their commitment to sustainability and supporting local food systems really shows. All cuts of meat, from artisan to cured, are the highest quality, and all products in their grocery come from local farms and purveyors.

Plus, Chop Shop is just a pleasure to visit. It has a beautiful interior, with a chandelier, whitewashed brick walls, and murals throughout. Outside, there’s a patio that is perfect for noshing on meats and veggies cooked on the Big Green Egg.

Starting in the fall of 2019, Chop Shop will be partnering with various chefs from around the Southeast to host themed dinners on that patio, so be sure to check out Chop Shop’s events page for more details.

And be sure to visit the store in person, too: Chop Shop is located at 1366 Memorial Drive SE in Atlanta. Pick up some raw ingredients for an impressive at-home feast, or ready-to-eat paninis for an easy weeknight meal or weekend picnic.
