Gaga for Googie Burger

What a perfect day to grab lunch outside! The weather is just warm enough to actually enjoy it and any traces of tornado warnings and rain are long gone.

Not surprisingly, my colleagues and I decided there’s no better place to spend our lunch break than at a nearby park. Lucky for us, there’s a Googie Burger in said park—a tiny little burger shack with only five items on the menu.

Even though the menu is limited, you can’t go wrong with any of the burgers Googie offers. My favorite is the single-patty Googie Classic—just bun, beef, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and cheese. But you can also choose from options like the Beefy Pig Burger, the Flyin’ South Sandwich (fried chicken), and the Veg Out (black bean burger).

The fries are perfectly crispy and the portion is hefty—plenty for two to share. I hear Googie also serves incredible milkshakes, especially the peach one, although I’ve never had enough room in my stomach after lunch to get one.

So, where can you find this Googie Burger, you ask? At Centennial Olympic Park downtown Atlanta. On a nice day like today, you can grab a burger, enjoy the sunshine, the music, and the water fountains, and then walk off all those calories on your way back to work/ car. The only downfalls are parking (it’s paid parking all around) and long lines, so get there early if you hate waiting for your food.

THE VERDICT: Perfect for those who work/live within walking distance and those who want to grab a delicious lunch after visiting the GA Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, or getting a tour of the CNN Center.
