New Taste Tuesday: Gypsy Kitchen

Congrats to Gypsy Kitchen! The Buckhead, Atlanta, restaurant just celebrated its first anniversary! That’s right — it’s been treating Atlantans to authentic Spanish meals for a full year. And to celebrate, the eatery added a few new items to its already impressive menu.

WHY GO: Because sharing tapas and wine with friends, family or co-workers creates the perfect lasting bond. Because the bar is hopping at happy hour every day. Because the patio has one of the best views of Atlanta. Because the service is impeccable every time. (There are just so many reasons to dine here…)

THE VIBE: Generally wonderful. Upscale enough if you’re feeling fancy, but casual enough if you want a relaxing meal.

DRINK THIS: Spanish wine! Let your server pick for you. Or try a cocktail on tap! I had the gin and tonic, which is infused and topped with hibiscus.

EAT THIS: Foie gras escabeche. HO.LY.SHIT.
Foie fras escabeche with potato mousse, radish piperade and black olives

This dish is mind-blowing. Don’t get intimidated by the description: It’s terrine-style and semi-soft (think pate, not chopped liver), served on a bed of mousse-like mashed potatoes, pickled radishes and crunchy black olives (that last part seriously makes the dish).

My husband and I have decided this is a “Top Chef”-winning plate. It’s outstanding by itself, but even better with a small glass of dry sherry, like Marques de Poley, which Gypsy Kitchen carries.

If you’re still feeling adventurous, you should also try the lamb tartare and the uni-stuffed eggs, both off the snacks menu.

Now that you’ve had your fill of the more exotic proteins, nosh on some fried chickpeas while your next course is prepared. Maybe also order the grilled octopus off the tapas menu or a meat & cheese plate (jamon serrano and cana de cabra are two of my favorites).

Speaking of your next course, it should definitely include the seafood paella! (Make sure to add the fried egg).

Other entrees to consider are the Georges Bank cod or if you’re super hungry, the bone-in New York strip.

If there’s any room left, go for the homemade churros or the spicy chocolate mousse to round out your meal on a sweet note.
Dessert!

FUN FACT: If your tummy isn’t up for a full Spanish meal, grab a glass of wine and enjoy the gorgeous view from the restaurant’s patio. This is one of my favorite things about Gypsy Kitchen!
